Meeting at Climate Crisis ministry on Tuesday to address issue of crop burning

Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias will chair a coordination meeting at the ministry at 09:30 on Tuesday on the large number of fires growing out of control as of Saturday when farmers burn their fields.

During the last three days, over 60 fires have been registered daily, while weather conditions help them spread. Weather forecasts show a further rise in temperatures and strong winds that may develop into gale-force velocity in the coming days.

Officials are expected to announce a ban on burning fields at high-threat areas for a week, starting Tuesday.

Officials expected to attend the ministry meeting include Fire Department, Hellenic Police, Armed Forces, forestry and civil protection representatives, while regional governors and deputy governors are also expected to attend.
