Papastergiou: The government's main goal is the further digitalisation of the public sector and reduction of bureaucracy

Greece's significant progress in the digitalisation of the public sector in Greece was underlined by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou during the presentation of a survey on the citizens’ experience with digital services.
The survey showed that the digitalisation of the public sector has progressed, but there are still significant challenges, with the most important issues for the future being the continuous improvement of digital services and increasing access to them for all citizens.
Papastergiou acknowledged the significant progress that has been achieved in recent years in digitalisation, particularly with the gov.gr application and the digital wallet (gov.gr wallet), while emphasising that there is still a way to go to cover all services and improve the user experience.
He praised the success of the gov.gr wallet (it has 5.2 million downloads) and the integration of digital credentials, such as electronic identity, and stressed the importance of continuous improvement and the need to collect feedback from citizens in order to identify and correct problems, while acknowledging the challenges that arise, such as ensuring the access of the elderly to digital services and cooperation between different services.
He specifically said that the central goal of the government is the continuous improvement and simplification of digital services for citizens, reducing bureaucracy and increasing their satisfaction. He announced the continuous improvement of digital services, the development of new applications and the strengthening of cooperation with other countries to create a single digital space, such as the European digital wallet that will facilitate transactions throughout the European Union.
