PM Mitsotakis welcomes motion of censure; speaks of regional plan on Crete

The motion of censure filed by the main opposition leader is 'welcome', Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday, during a tour of Crete.

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader and former prime minister Alexis Tsipras filed the motion at the end of a speech criticizing the government over the phonetapping issue.

"The proposal is welcome, and the truth is that I was entreating him for several months to go ahead," Mitsotakis said. He said it was "a very good opportunity to compare four-year records. I aim for a comparison, come and let us get compared."

Mitsotakis added the hope that citizens "overcome the cloud of toxicity and realize who can talk about their future. As of tomorrow, we shall be in Parliament and on Friday we will receive a vote of confidence, and until we call elections, we will continue our jobs."

Crete's regional plan

On Crete, the premier spoke of the development plan for the island, one of several initiatives taking place in Greece per region.

The development plan for Crete includes over 480 projects and focuses on four sectors: infrastructure (145 projects, budgeted at 3.68 billion euros), agricultural production and green transition (57 projects, budgeted at 2.33 bln euros), investment and regional value (65 projects at 386 mln euros, and 7 strategic investments), and quality of life for citizens (210 projects budgeted at 1.2 bln euros).

Mitsotakis mentioned major works such as the Northern Road Axis of Crete, the connection of Crete's power grid with the mainland, the new International Airport of Iraklio, dams and water reservoirs, and household waste processing sites.

More projects are taking place in other sectors, including ports, culture and archaeological sites in particular, health, and education, among others.
