Commission Vice-President Schinas to visit Tripoli for Mediterranean Forum on migration

Vice-President of European Commission Margaritis Schinas, is set to visit Tripoli, Libya, on Wednesday to participate in the Mediterranean Forum on Migration.

According to Commission, Schinas' visit highlights EU's support for the region and its commitment to collaboration with Libyan authorities under the Immigration and Asylum Pact which emphasizes migration management with full respect for fundamental rights.

The forum, organized by the Libyan government, aims to address the root causes of migration, combat human trafficking, manage the return and evacuation of migrants from transit countries, enhance protection systems, improve border management and foster cooperation between countries of origin, transit, and destination in Africa and Europe. Will participate twenty-eight countries across Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa, as well as officials from international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

During his visit, Schinas will meet with Libyan Prime Minister and conduct high-level consultations with members of the Libyan government on issues related to migration, development, security and protection systems, with a particular focus on the needs of women and children.
