Mitsotakis: 'As the country makes progress, the citizens must also feel it'

"For the first time we have decided and implemented something simple but very fundamental. The state will cover your rent once each year!," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a message on social media on Sunday, regarding the one-month's rent rebate for tenants announced earlier in the week.
"We are not handing out benefits, we are return the profits of the economy through permanent measures. We are returning the surplus from growth and from the fight against tax evasion where it belongs. In other words, to you! The measure envisions the annual return of one month's rent to more than 900,000 tenants. It will be paid each November and concerns both the main residence and student accommodation, up to a maximum sum of 900 euros and 800 euros, respectively. And if you have two children who are studying, you will get it for both," the prime minister said.
He stressed that this measure was taken in addition to all the other measures already being implemented for housing, adding: "As as the economy is strengthened, so must the citizens' income be strengthened. As the country makes progress, the citizens must also feel it, especially young people. This is what we are doing and what we will continue to do through actions! Because I know how hard it is for those that are renting to get by, especially our young people."
