Pierrakakis meets Secretary Bessent, Deputy Secretary Faulkender of the U.S. Treasury

National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis on Friday met U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and and the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Faulkender during his visit to Washington for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings.
Among others, they discussed ways to attract U.S. investment to new sectors in Greece, broader economic cooperation between Athens and Washington and artificial intelligence.
The talks confirmed U.S. interest in the prospects of the Greek economy, which found itself the focus of interest during the IMF meetings as one of the few good examples in a period of extended uncertainty.
The meeting with Bessent went ahead in spite of his heavy schedule, as America's trading partners make haste to exploit a window of opportunity offered by the temporary suspension of tariffs in order to negotiate new trade deals.
According to sources, Greece is presently waiting to see how talks will unfold on a European level and will then examine the the possibility of waivers for Greek products that are exported to the United Nations.
Pierrakakis' meeting with his U.S. counterpart was also held in the wake of statements made by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis to Breitbart News regarding tariffs that were welcomed in Washington, as they are considered to promote a constructive stance within the EU on transatlantic trade.
