PASOK: 'Is there no limit to this failed and arrogant government's downhill slide'

"Mr. Marinakis brazenly stated today that PASOK is urging the government to not pay the country's loan obligations. Is there no limit to this failed and arrogant government's political downhill slide," commented main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change on Friday, in response to an interview given by the government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis. "Clearly not for the party that made a career of being anti-memorandum at Zappeion, after having left the country on the verge of bankruptcy," it added.
PASOK underlined that Marinakis "will not be able to avoid the truth,” and emphasised that “ the largest share of public revenue continues to come from indirect taxation, which impacts the middle class and the weakest.” Furthermore, the party raised questions about the figures: “ How is the 4.8% GDP surplus compatible with the monstrous debt arrears and the suspension of payments on public works? How can a one-month rent rebate increase the supply of rental properies?"
The party said that it "insists on permanent structural solutions, such as a new EKAS and a comprehensive housing policy that will put an end to homelessness," and cited a statement made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis when he was leader of the opposition, underlining: "If all this seems like populism to them, let them listen to a familiar voice from the past: 'Smaller primary surpluses mean fewer taxes for every Greek woman and man. Smaller surpluses mean lower contributions for every worker. Smaller primary surpluses mean a more effective and substantial welfare state. They mean targeted recruitment where we need it in our hospitals and our education'. Kyriakos Mitsotakis as leader of the main opposition".
