New waste-management unit for Peloponnese inaugurated by Environment & Energy Min

A new Waste-Processing Unit in Messenia was inaugurated on Thursday by Environment & Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou.
The new unit completes the unified project of solid waste management for the Region of the Peloponnese.
Papastavrou said that the project "creates a new reality in waste management in the Peloponnese, compared to 2019, when the Region of the Peloponnese operated a single landfill and several illegal ones, for which Greece kept paying fines to the European Union. As a matter of fact, 21 of the 65 cases of fines we paid for illegal landfills related to the Region of the Peloponnese. Today, 13 units operate in Greece, with 3 of them in the Peloponnese, while another 24 are under construction."
The project, he said, is a Private-Public Partnership with an investment worth 167 million euros. It will serve both residents and tourists, and has created 800 job openings, Papastavrou noted.
