Kerameus: When the economy overperforms, the government's priority is to return dividends to society

Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus on Wednesday referred to the measures announced by the prime minister, as a result of the economy's overperformance, in an interview to public broadcaster ERT.

Specifically, the minister spoke about the new economic benefit of 250 euros to be given to approximately 62% of the country's pensioners over 65 years of age, noting that the 250 euros net, which will be paid by the end of November each year, concerns pensioners over 65, who have an annual family income of up to 14,000 euros, if they are single, and up to 26,000 euros, if they are married or in a civil partnership, along with some additional income criteria.

At the same time, Kerameus underlined the contribution of the ministry to the overperformance of the economy.

"Let's not forget that we have 500,000 new jobs created in the last five years. All of this arises due to wage increases. We are constantly seeing wage increases. When wages increase, it means that we have more revenue for the state and social security funds. It arises due to the greater number of full-time contracts. Right now, we have more than three in four employees who are paid full-time and not part-time," she said.
