Androulakis: If the European economy is damaged, Greece's service sector will also be impacted

The impact of Donald Trump's tariff policy and the way the EU should react were highlighted by main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis, in an interview with Radio Thessaloniki on Tuesday.
"There are the primary impacts, which have to do with the products we export directly to the United States. However, there are also the secondary impacts, because if the European economy sustains damage, as you can understand, Greece's services sector will also sustain damage, because it relies on tourism. When the worker in Germany's auto industry has no money in his or her pocket, he or she will not spend it in the summer months in Greece," noted the president of PASOK-Movement for Change. "There must be an immediate collective response and we must not be led, through delays, to each state going it alone and negotiating with the United States. We must not allow this to happen," he added.
Regarding the electrical interconnection with Cyprus and Turkiye's provocations, Androulakis commented: "When there is the illegal Turkish-Lybian agreement and you start an investment, where its non-implementation essentially confirms Turkiye's aspirations, then if you have not ensured its completion, then you are either an amateur or dangerous or both."
Regarding the announcement by Defence Minister Nikos Dendias of Greece's intention to purchase another French frigate, Androulakis stated that the position of PASOK-Movement for Change is that in every new armaments programme, there should be technical capabilities for co-production, so that Greece does not only purchase but also manufactures armament programmes, helping the economy and the country's defence. "Thirty percent must be produced within the country," he said. PASOK's leader said that choice presented by some other parties between either a strong social state or strong defence was "a false dilemma" as both were needed in order to face any danger.
PASOK will bring an alternative governance proposal, Androulakis underlined: "The people have problems. They are not satisfied with New Democracy. What they want is a different governance proposal that will improve their life. I believe that as long as we work and present this governance proposal at the regional and central levels, I think the Greek people will reward PASOK in the end."
