PM Mitsotakis: All indications concerning the Greek economy are good

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday expressed his optimism regarding the prospects of the Greek economy, as well as the need for political and economic stability, amid a discussion regarding the new American leadership's intention to impose tariffs on European products, during his first regular briefing of the new President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas.
"Amid this global turmoil, the stability of our economy is very important. Fiscal discipline is the foundation on which all our policies are built. In times of upheaval, political and economic stability are necessary. We must be prudent and steadfast, as no one can know, as yet, what repercussions there will be on the growth rate of the economy. I continue to be optimistic as all the indications concerning the Greek economy are good: there was good news on the export front in the first two months of the year, which confirms the extroversion of the Greek economy, unemployment is declining and tourism seems to have started very encouragingly," said the prime minister.
Furthermore, Mitsotakis also referred to UNESCO's decision to propose February 9, the anniversary of the death of Greece's national poet Dionysios Solomos, as World Greek Language Day, speaking of the great importance of cultural diplomacy.
On his part, President Tassoulas underlined "the need for preparedness and rapid adaptability to the new conditions, where there are expressed doubts in the geopolitical and geoeconomic fields."
Tassoulas noted that "the European Union must address the issue with a single voice without embarrassment, tension and hostility, but also explain to the American side that we only have things to lose. Let us hope that the initiatives being taken will calm the tension. The Greek citizen wants to be safe and be able to progress."
