Train 1551 from Chalkida (Evia) to Athens was immobilized on the tracks at 15:30 on Monday due to an unknown failure, Hellenic Train said.
The train carried 51 passengers and stopped nearly 30 meters from the train stop 'Inoi'.
Hellenic Train said it notified the Fire Department, which joined company specialists and police to extricate the passengers and transfer them safely to the train station. The passengers were then transported to their final destinations by bus.
Some of the Hellenic Train lines on the same section of the network were delayed because the electricity supply in the area had to be shut down completely in order to extricate passengers safely.
The cause of the train failure is being investigated.
