DEF X - Pyatt: The prospects for Greek-Turkish cooperation in energy

Former Undersecretary of Energy and former US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt referred to the prospects for Greek-Turkish cooperation in the energy sector, speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum X.
“ As the person who was the US ambassador to Greece in the summer of 2020, when the Oruc Reis crisis happened, I consider it a great achievement that this relationship is now being managed effectively and directly between the two governments. And I think that is one of the things that contributes to the interest of a company like Chevron,”  Pyatt emphasised and added:
“ Greece has made great progress in building resilience in Europe’s energy sector through Alexandroupolis, Revythoussa, the IGB Greece-Bulgaria gas pipeline, the Southern Gas Corridor. Similarly, Turkiye has been involved in some of these projects and has significantly developed its regasification infrastructure. Importantly, Turkiye will have to make a decision this year on how to handle its long-term contract with Gazprom, which is expiring.
"The fact that there is this positive dialogue, directly between the two capitals, is a greater message of confidence. I think, as we look to the future, there is much more potential for broader regional cooperation, as we have discussed. Whether it is the vertical corridor, or the transport of clean electricity from Egypt through Greece to Europe, or more projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor, which is entirely dependent on the cooperation between BOTAS in Turkey and the TAP pipeline, which transports gas to Italy," he said.
Pyatt also emphasised that Europe's geopolitical centre of gravity is shifting to the south and east, and Greece and Turkiye are right in the middle of this scene.
