DEF X-Pierrakakis: We will maintain careful fiscal management and continue to enhance reforms

"The state of the Greek economy is self-evidently good," Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated regarding the imposition of tariffs by the US and the resulting global turmoil.
Speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum X, he underlined that "we will focus and delve more deeply into our policy and fiscal stability. We will be very careful with fiscal policy and we will delve more and more into reforms and dynamics that free up the country's growth potential."
He added that the strategic planning in fiscal matters will be the same and this is the essence of the new approach by the EU with the spending framework.
The minister said that emphasis is placed on three pillars: national, developmental and social. For the first part, he said that there were cost savings by the Ministry of National Defense and the prime minister decided to implement this specific policy (with increases in the Armed Forces' salaries). He noted that "taxes must be reduced" and this has a developmental and social impact. But, he added, this must be done in harmozination with fiscal stability. "There is a social need and we must respond to it," he concluded.
On the issue of high cost of living, he stated that he is in close cooperation with the Ministry of Development, placing an emphasis on controls through new digital tools.
