Culture Ministry: Mendoni discusses return of Greek-Jewish relics during visit to Warsaw for EU Council

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, who was in Warsaw for an Informal Council of EU Culture Ministers, had a working meeting with Polish Culture and National Heritage Minister Hanna Wróblewska ahead of the Council meeting, according to a culture ministry announcement on Wednesday. In talks with her Polish counterpart, she expressed her satisfaction with the positive and collegial climate of cooperation that has developed between the two countries, which promotes the further strengthening of cultural relations.
Focusing on the issue of the repatriation of illegally exported cultural goods, Mendoni raised Greece's request for the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures in Athens, thanking her Polish counterpart "for the Polish government's steadfast support for the Greek request, as expressed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a year ago, here in Warsaw."
Wróblewska emphatically reiterated the Polish government's support for the Greek request for the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures in Athens. Mendoni, on her part, also raised the issue of the return of 76 Greek-Jewish relics to the Jewish Museum in Athens.
Mendoni outlined the possibilities for exchanges and cooperation in matters of cinematography, exchanges of exhibitions of contemporary art and handicrafts, for which the Polish Minister declared herself extremely willing.
As part of her programme, Mendoni visited the Jewish Historical Institute, where she was given a tour of the Emanuel Ringelblum Archive by the Institute's director, Dr Michal Trębacz. At the Institute, she had the opportunity to see some of the 76 Greek-Jewish relics. Afterwards, the Greek minister met with the director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Joanna Mytkowska, who expressed her admiration and desire for collaboration with the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens.
The EU culture ministers' council was held on April 7-8.
