Migration Min Voridis meets with EUAA executive director Gregori

Migration and Asylum Minister Makis Voridis on Wednesday met with the Executive Director of the Europan Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) Nina Gregori.
During the meeting, the common challenges faced by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum in the field were discussed, at a time when the management of migration flows remains a critical issue for Greece and the European Union.
The minister analysed the ministry's main political priorities, with an emphasis on effectively strengthening returns and tackling illegal migration, as stated in a relevant announcement.
Particular reference was made to the operational challenge posed by the implementation of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum in June 2026, with both sides agreeing on the need for timely preparation and close cooperation, the announcement also underlined.
At the same time, the basis was laid for the technical discussions that will follow in view of the drafting of the new Joint Operational Plan between the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and the EUAA for the year 2026.
EUAA has operational plans with 10 EU member-states, but its work in Greece is the most extensive. Today, 489 EUAA staff and 104 interpreters are employed in Greece to support the Greek asylum and migration system, a number that demonstrates the depth and importance of the cooperation between the two sides.
