Marinakis: Economic Policy Council will draft the national economic strategy

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis launched Monday's press briefing by reporting on the meeting of the Government Economic Policy Council chaired by the prime minister, held earlier the same day.
"Prime Minister Mitsotakis stressed that the Council has a dual role, on the one hand to coordinate the actions of the productive ministries based on the immediate and medium-term goals that we have set and on the other hand to draft a national economic strategy, especially in view of the new conditions after the United States chose to essentially more or less overturn, through the imposition of tariffs, what has applied until now in global trade," he said.
"Regarding the issue of tariffs, the prime minister stated that our country is recording growth rates significantly higher than the European average, that employment has increased by half a million jobs, while exports and the extroversion of the economy are constantly improving. Furthermore, he pointed out that the government, even in these difficult times, guarantees that the national economy is ready to face these new challenges, implementing our commitments to citizens, as long as we can always act with truth and stability as allies and staying on the path of fiscal responsibility," he added.
Marinakis also noted that Greece insists on "a unified response" by the European Union, in order to ensure that its response is effective, adding that the details of this will be worked out within the coming weeks.
Regarding migration issues, he reported that "two operations to return third country nationals from Greece were successfully completed. A total of 160 third-country nationals returned to their countries of origin, either voluntarily, within the framework of the AVRR programme organised by the International Organisation for Migration, or because there was a final decision to deny their requests for international protection. The government implements a fair, but strict migration policy, with respect for human rights and the rules of international law."
