Tourim Min Kefalogianni: Italians’ growing preference for Greece highlights strong bilateral relations

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni visited on Friday the recently relocated EOT Office in Milan.

In interviews with Italian media, she spoke about the importance of alternative forms of tourism, such as wine tourism, agrotourism, yachting, luxury tourism and marinas. She also pointed out the cultural similarities between Greece and Italy, which as she said are a solid foundation for further strengthening tourism cooperation between the two countries.

Kefalogianni stressed that the growing preference of Italians for Greece, both as a summer and as a year-round alternative destination, reflects the strong cultural and travel relations between the two countries. "Our goal is to further strengthen this relationship by investing in promotional, sustainable development and thematic tourism actions that meet the modern needs of Italian visitors," Kefalogianni said.

Italy ranks third among the tourist markets for Greece, after Germany and the United Kingdom, and is one of the most important sources of visitors for Greece, with a steady upward trend in recent years. In 2024, more than 2 million Italians visited Greece, recording a 10% increase compared to 2023. At the same time, travel receipts from Italy exceeded 1.2 billion euros.
