Mitsotakis: PPC's 'flagship' investment in Western Macedonia is 'visionary and ambitious'

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday described PPC as a "national champion" and highlighted its large "flagship" investment in Western Macedonia, in a speech at the Kardia Steam Power Plant (SPP) to present the PPC's investment plan for in the area.
"I cannot describe in words how visionary and ambitious this plan is. It is a plan of global scope, not just European scope, which I am absolutely convinced that a company with the financial strength of the PPC and with the support of the Greek state and with access to European financial tools, is a plan that we can all implement together," he said.
Regarding PPC, the Prime Minister noted: "I want to remind you that when the Greek people first placed their trust in us in 2019, the price of PPC's share had fallen to close to 1.5 euros, and the company was then practically on the verge of bankruptcy.
"We made very bold decisions, with the result that today, six years later, PPC is an extremely robust company, a national champion, a company that plays a leading role in the rearrangement of the energy map in the Balkans, but also a company that has the ability to envision and implement ambitious plans, such as the one presented to you today."
He also said that, in 2019, he himself made a bold decision to move faster towards the green transition and the country's independence from lignite coal, emphasising that this decision was vindicated by subsequent events.
