Tsoukalas: PM was the first in 2023 to 'try, acquit and draw conclusions' regarding Tempi rail crash

The spokesperson for main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change, Kostas Tsoukalas, on Thursday rejected suggestions that his party had "instrumentalised" the Tempi rail accident, noting in an interview with ANT1 television that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had been the "first to try, acquit and draw conclusions in 2023 on whether there were flammable materials and the non-existence of responsibility on the part of [then minister] Kostas Karamanlis."
Talking about the findings of opinion polls, Tsoukalas said that PASOK-KINAL had known it would not benefit politically from initiating a motion of no-confidence or the parliamentary investigation into the rail disaster but had chosen to do so anyway, "because it is a foremost issue of values, institutions and justice."
He also referred to issues affecting the daily life of citizens, while noting that a reorganisation of production was an "existential necessity" - especially in the wake of the tariffs announced by the United States - and dominated the party's 13 regional conference taking place throughout Greece. He accused the government of having done "virtually nothing" to modernise the production model or for the digitalisation of the private economy.
PASOK wants to highlight the comparative advantages of each region to achieve the central goal of food sufficiency and security, he added, while also citing the party's proposals for more housing and lower rents.
