BOG: Deposit and lending interest rates lower in February

The weighted average interest rates on new deposits and loans decreased to 0.41% in February 2025 and 5.05%, respectively, according to the Bank of Greece (BOG).
The interest rate spread between outstanding amounts of deposits and loans dropped to 4.79 percentage points from 4.85% in the previous month.
The interest rate spread between new deposits and loans remained almost unchanged at 4.64 percentage points.
In February 2025, the weighted average interest rate on new deposits fell by 4 basis points to 0.41% compared with the previous month.
In particular, the average interest rates on overnight deposits placed by households remained unchanged at 0.03%, while the corresponding rate on deposits placed by non-financial corporations decreased by 3 basis points to 0.13%.
The average interest rate on deposits from households with an agreed maturity of up to 1 year decreased by 14 basis points to 1.50%, while the corresponding rate on deposits from non-financial corporations decreased by 16 basis points to 2.16%.
The weighted average interest rate on new loans to households and non-financial corporations also decreased by 5 basis points to 5.05%.
More specifically, the average interest rate on consumer loans without a defined maturity (a category that comprises credit cards, revolving loans and overdrafts) decreased by 6 basis points to 14.82%.
The average interest rate on consumer loans with a defined maturity at a floating rate decreased by 13 basis points to 11.64%, while the average interest rate on housing loans at a floating rate decreased by 34 basis points to 3.56%.
The average interest rate on corporate loans without a defined maturity decreased by 16 basis points to 5.29%. The corresponding rate on loans to sole proprietors decreased by 7 basis points to 7.13%.
