Deputy FM Chatzivasiliou in Kiev: Peacekeeping, speedy reconstruction of Ukraine necessary

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion Tasos Chatzivasiliou met bilaterally with ministers of the Ukraine government during a work visit to Kiev, to discuss Ukraine's reconstruction and energy needs, and bilateral economic cooperation.

As a Foreign Affairs Ministry statement said, directly after arriving at Kiev Chatzivasiliou laid a wreath at the Monument of Fallen Soldiers, honoring the memory of fighters who lost their lives defending the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The minister then met with Ukraine's State Minister Oleh Nemchinov, Deputy Foreign Minister Olexandr Mischenko, Deputy Minister responsible for reconstruction Aliona Shkrum, Deputy Economy Minister Andrii Teliupa, and Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak.

During his contacts, Chatzivasiliou focused on the readiness of Greek companies to participate in Ukraine's reconstruction, and emphasized bilateral cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries. He also met at the Greek embassy in Kiev with Ukrainian specialists and representatives of think tanks, in the presence of Greek Ambassador Alexandros Dimitrakopoulos.

Following the meetings, Chatzivasiliou stated, "I am visiting Kiev at a time when the priority is a ceasefire. I have talked with ministers of the Ukrainian government about the country's reconstruction, investments in energy infrastructure, and the deepening of economic cooperation between Greece and Ukraine. Peacekeeping and the speediest reconstruction of the county are necessary in order to put an end to the nightmare experienced daily by Ukraine's citizens. Living among them are thousands of Greek origin. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stands firmly by their side."
