Severe weather hits Aegean islands; schools closed

The islands of the Cyclades are expected to be affected by more heavy rainfall and storms on Tuesday, according to the National Meteorological Service.
Severe weather phenomena are also forecast for the islands of the Eastern Aegean (mainly Chios - Ikaria - Samos), the Dodecanese, Thessaly and the Sporades, as well as in Evia and western and southern Crete from the evening.
Winds in the Dodecanese until noon will be easterly southeasterly, locally up to 8 Beaufort.
Schools on the island of Rhodes will not operate
By decision of the mayor of Rhodes, Alexandros Koliadis, the island's schools at all levels will remain closed on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, due to the severe weather conditions forecast by the National Meteorological Service (EMY). The decision was taken for precautionary reasons, with the safety of students, teachers and their families as the main consideration.
All schools closed on the island of Kos
By decision of the mayor of Kos, Theodosis Nikitaras, the operation of primary and secondary education units as well as kindergartens was suspended on Tuesday, April 1, throughout the island.
Schools closed on Paros and Mykonos
School units will remain closed on Paros and Mykonos, according to announcements by the municipalities.
Specifically, the municipality of Paros stated that the operation of primary and secondary schools, as well as municipal kindergartens, has been suspended on Tuesday for the protection and safety of students and teachers.
Residents of Mykonos were also advised to remain in their homes due to the ongoing bad weather and schools on the island were closed on Tuesday.
