Famellos: SYRIZA's support for Greek refugees is timeless and lasting

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance "recognizes and honors the history of Greek refugees and their contributions to our homeland, and supports the promotion of the recognition of the genocide of Greeks in Anatolia," party leader Sokratis Famellos said on Monday, at a meeting with the Euxenos Club of European Citizens.
Famellos underlined that the party "supports the initiatives of associations of Greek refugees (Pontians, Asia Minor, and Thrace refugees), and all other Christian populations in Anatolia who suffered genocides by the Ottoman and Turkish state (Armenians, Assyrians). We support the promotion of the international recognition of the genocide in the framework of Greece's international initiatives and at all international fora we participate in. And, obviously, on the basis of international law and respect of human rights. In this context, we commit to assuming new initiatives in Greece and Europe, expressing the universal demands of Greek refugees."
He also noted that SYRIZA-PA had publicly announced and commits to the Road Map and Action Plan to Support Pontian Greeks since April 2023, which he said "we support and promote."
He also expressed support for the demand that a permanent interparty committee is set up in Parliament "to map out and implement a specific action plan for the international recognition of the genocide of Greeks in Anatolia," while he also mentioned the problems Pontian Greeks from former Soviet Union countries face, including housing loans and pensions.
The meeting included representatives of the Euxenos Club, Assyrians in Greece, Greek Pontians, Greeks of Magnesia in Asia Minor, and others.
