National Security Council appoints new chief for Port Authority/Coast Guard

The Government Council on National Security (KYSEA) appointed Vice-Admiral Tryfon Kontizas new chief of the Port Authority/Hellenic Coast Guard on Monday.

Kontizas has extensive experience in security and protection of sea borders and served as national expert in illegal migration at Europol and port authority chief. He has attended a series of training and other seminars in Greece and abroad on national security and information in the Mediterranean, counterterrorism, operations planning, management and analysis of information, and protection of sensitive targets. He is also a fluent speaker of English.
