Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou on Sunday evening spoke on the phone with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior and President of the National Energy Dominance Council of the USA, Doug Burgum.
According to the ministry, the conversation focused on Greece-USA strategic relations, as well as the energy developments that directly affect both countries. Special emphasis was given to the Greek government's approval of expressions of interest by the U.S. oil company Chevron for the offshore blocks "South Crete I and II" with both sides agreeing that it was a very important development that strengthens the close bilateral relations of the two countries. 
The National Energy Dominance Council was established by US President Donald Trump by executive order on 14 February 2025.
