Hatzidakis: We must persist in our targets and in reforms during these difficult times

The government made a new start with the cabinet reshuffle, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis told 'Parapolitika' newspaper in an interview published Sunday, explaining also his new role.

"My role is to coordinate, and my effort is that every ministry I am responsible for promotes two or three basic initiatives that will have a significant impact on the economy and every Greek citizen," he said. Among those initiatives he named were for investments and exports, and "dealing in collaboration of course with relevant ministries some of those problems we call deep state, such as example the Hellenic Railroad Organization (OSE). The Public Power Corporation, the unified health and pension system (EFKA), and the civil administration's digital upgrade are showing the way." Citizens ask for reforms more than anything else, he added.

Hatzidakis, former Economy & Finance minister, said that the share of the public in the success of the economy would grow over time because inflation is dropping, and the government is applying an economic model that combines fiscal seriousness with investment-friendly policies, so that the Greek economy, barring any international crisis, is expected to keep outperforming its targets.

In terms of Greek-Turkish relations, the minister said "the tension between Greece and Turkiye is definitely negative for both countries," but added that "this does not mean we are building our relations with Turkiye outside of International Law rules." Simultaneously to our wish for peace, Greece is boosting its defense.
