Hatzivasileiou: Greece's strategy on energy, geopolitical stability enhances its position

The strategy of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' government, which is based on the dual factors of energy and geopolitical stability, "brings results and strengthens our international position,” said Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Tasos Hatzivasileiou, in an interview with Real FM on Thursday.
Hatzivasileiou highlighted the importance of Chevron's and ExxonMobil's presence in the wider region, as a sign of international trust in Greece, underlining that “ we are exercising our sovereign rights in practice.”
According to the minister, the current situation is shaping a new reality: “ If the results are good, Greece will acquire a stronger role, not only in the energy sector but also on the geostrategic chessboard of the Eastern Mediterranean,” he said. Specifically, referring to the prime minister's upcoming visit to Israel, he noted that the relationship between the two countries is strategic and built on solid foundations, explaining that "this visit follows on from the close cooperation that the Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis has with his Israeli counterpart and confirms that our cooperation in energy, security, technology, defence and many other areas is substantive and close."
Regarding the Greece-Cyprus-Israel energy interconnection, Hatzivasileiou pointed out that the project is progressing normally, has the support of the European Union and the United States, and is "a project of peace and stability."
Finally, regarding Greek-American relations, he described the recent statements made by US President Donald Trump at the March 25 event at the White House as “ cordial”, clarifying that there are only two countries - Greece and Ireland - that traditionally celebrate their national holidays at the White House. In addition, he referred to the new US ambassador to Athens, Kimberly Guilfoyle, underlining her close relationship with the U.S. president, saying that this further facilitates communications between Athens and Washington.
Asked about Hakan Fidan’s visit to the US Secretary of State, he said: “ If one compares the State Department’s announcements about Mr. Rubio’s meetings with Mr. Gerapetritis and then with Mr. Fidan, one sees the difference in the wording. Greece is recognised as a reliable ally and partner and as a pillar of stability in the region.”
