Committees convene on seismic activity in the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos

A joint session of the Permanent Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment and Reducing Seismic Danger and the Permanent Scientific Committee for Monitoring the Greek Volcanic Arc of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organisation (OASP) was held on Friday in order to examine the seismic and volcanic activity in the wider Santorini sea area.

The announcement of the two committees is as follows:

  • The seismic sequence in the sea area of Anydros between Santorini and Amorgos has remained steadily at a low level. Within the seismic sequence, however, the sporadic occurrence of stronger earthquakes cannot be excluded.
  • Although seismicity is low, we have not returned to the level before the seismic outbreak. Consequently, citizens should follow general instructions for self-protection.
  • Emergency civil protection measures should be observed in the island complex of Santorini (https://search.et.gr).
  • Some facilities and infrastructure can be returned to normal operation.
