FinMin Pierrakakis: Tax evasion means lost opportunities for Greece
The new Minister of Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, met with the Governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) George Pitsilis, on Friday.
Pierrakakis was briefed by Pitsilis on the submission of tax returns, which started earlier this year, the organisational and digital transformation of the AADE and the progress of major projects. Among them is the new call centre for citizens, which is expected to be operational by the summer of 2025.
Pierrakakis also stressed that the fight against tax evasion is a priority for the government. "Tax evasion is not just lost revenue; tax evasion is lost opportunities for the country," he said, adding that the AADE has highly trained staff and has all modern tools such as artificial intelligence and a state-of-the-art operational centre, which he described as a diamond for the Greek public sector.
