Kontogeorgis: We need to reconnect with the younger generation

Deputy State Minister to the Prime Minister Thanassis Kontogeorgis referred to the Tempi case on Thursday evening, in an interview with the public broadcaster ERT.
"The only issue on which the opposition's stance has been fully consistent since the first day of the last few months, during which society and the political system have mobilised, is in the instrumentalisation of the tragedy, as well as every stage of the process of a criminal case," Kontogeorgis claimed. The government, by contrast, "had decided from the first moment to move on the path of responsibility and legality, as we should, and at the same time on the path of respect and trust in justice," he added.
Kontogeorgis stressed that "we need to reconnect with the younger generation. We need to address young people in a simple and understandable way, who may reject many aspects of public life ... We have an obligation to talk more about the issues that concern them, to explain and show that there are reasons for optimism, that there is a way to change things and make life better."
On migration, he said that "the government's policy has continuity, is fair but strict, deterrent to a large extent. We are interested in the discussion taking place in the European Council concerning the protection of external borders in relation to migration,"  citing the prime minister's statement from Brussels.
Referring to taxation issues, he noted that "we want even greater tax fairness, that is the goal," while also setting the goal of economic growth, "which we seem to be achieving," while adding that "the challenge for us is for all of this to pass into the real economy."
