Theodorikakos: Push underway to recover half a billion euros in subsidies for uncompleted investments

"We found that money had been handed out under the development laws of 2004 and 2011 for investments that were not completed. We have begun issuing decisions to recover this money," Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said on ANT1 TV on Thursday, announcing that this amounts to 480 million euros from 1,400 investment projects.
"One by one, the cases, he continued, are going to Independent Authority for Public Revenue and we are not going to leave a single euro that does not return to the coffers for the taxpayers, so that they can be given for social and developmental purposes."
The minister emphasised that the same will be done for the 2016 development law, for which an investigation is already underway.
He then pointed out that productivity has to be increased and Greece made much more competitive.
“ We need to invest in industry, modernise the primary sector and introduce new technology and innovation into all sectors. We are talking about changing the production model because Greece is not going to live on tourism alone,” said the development minister.
"With the new development law, we are focusing mainly on border areas, on the prefectures with the greatest inequalities, so that demographics can also be addressed. The government's decision and commitment that we will do what is right is clear," he clarified.
