Bratakos and Australian Ambassador Duncan discuss funding for Greek Projects through pension fund

The prospects for strengthening economic relations between Greece and Australia were discussed by the President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Ioannis Bratakos, and the Australian Ambassador to Greece Alison Duncan.
According to an ACCI statement, Duncan highlighted the potential for financing major investment projects in Greece through a 3.5 billion-dollar pension fund, which could support high-growth sectors such as renewable energy and tourism.
The absence of a free trade agreement (FTA) was identified as a major obstacle. Bratakos and Duncan specifically addressed the challenges faced by Greek food exports to Australia. In this context, they underscored the importance of reviving FTA negotiations, particularly regarding Australia's access to the European agricultural market.
Bratakos emphasized the need to boost tourist flows and implement targeted actions to promote Greek tourism in Australia. He also stressed that Australia represents a key market for Greece with significant potential for stronger economic ties.
Duncan, highlighted the possibility of establishing a direct flight between Athens and Australia.
They also explored investment opportunities in Greece, particularly in tourism, renewable energy, and real estate, as well as potential investments by Greek companies in Australia, especially in the minerals, renewable energy, and shipping sectors.
