Hatzidakis: Our obligation is to fight the deep state

"We have taken steps, but more need to be done about the deep state. PPC is not in the situation it was in 2019. National Social Security Service, Independent Authority for Public Revenue, the digital dimension of the state the same. But OSE (Hellenic Railways Organisation) is not one of these examples. The fight against the deep state is our obligation. Not to say, but to do things, underlined government's vice president Kostis Hatzidakis addressing on Monday a conference organised by Kyklos Ideon for the national restructuring.

Asked on his new duties, Hatzidakis focused on two two elements: The coordination of the economic and productive ministries and special projects of which - as he said - "I have been a fan for several years."

Regarding coordination, the government's will is to place greater emphasis not so much on the "macro" (where, as the upgrades to the economy and the execution of the budget show, things are going well, he noted) but on the "micro". That is, investments, exports, competition and competitiveness of the economy.

As for the special projects, one of them will be the restructuring of the Hellenic Railways. "Of course, the burden falls on the competent ministry. But because there are co-responsibilities and things that need to be done quickly and in coordination, it is something that the Prime Minister assigned to me," Hatzidakis said.

In response to a question regarding the use of the surplus to boost citizens' incomes, Hatzidakis listed the interventions that have already been announced (a new increase in the minimum wage in a few days, a corresponding increase in salaries in the public sector, a special allowance for the Armed Forces and Security Forces, annual increases in pensions. He reiterated that in Thessaloniki International Fair in September, if there are no international reversals, the Prime Minister will make announcements in the direction of making social policy more intense with a clearer example in the reduction of direct taxes.
