Government officials: The goal is efficiency and speed in the government's work

Commenting on the government reshuffle on Friday, government sources spoke of a major renewal that gives opportunities to new and younger ministers. The government officials noted that "the Mitsotakis government is changing generations and philosophy, with the goal of efficiency and speed in the government's work."

A broader coordinating role in the new government was assumed by Kostis Hatzidakis, who will oversee the economic and productive ministries. At the same time, Akis Skertsos, in addition to general coordination, will oversee the social and institutional ministries.

The difficult task of connecting the government's economic policy and fiscal successes with the everyday lives of citizens, without any concessions as regards fiscal discipline, was undertaken by 42-year-old Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who successfully delivered the gov.gr and non-state Universities reforms and will work closely with Hatzidakis.

According to the comments of government officials, "in designing the new government, Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a central political decision: to trust and give opportunities to the younger generation."

The reshuffle was announced by 37-year-old Pavlos Marinakis, who over the last two years has successfully served in the difficult role of deputy minister to the prime minister and government spokesperson and remains in his position.

The prime minister entrusted the crucial infrastructure and transport portfolio to 44-year-old Christos Dimas and 37-year-old Konstantinos Kyranakis (appointing him as deputy minister for transport), who is credited with the success of the Land Registry.

The difficult mission of dealing with the demographic situation at the ministry of family was taken on by Domna Michailidou, also 37, who is expected to soon give birth to her first child.

In the crucial post of civil protection, 42-year-old Yannis Kefalogiannis was appointed minister after a successful term as deputy minister of defence, succeeding Vasilis Kikilias who is moving to the maritime and insular policy ministry.

The taxation portfolio at the economy and finance ministry was taken over by 41-year-old Giorgos Kotsiras, while Sofia Zacharaki, who will now be responsible for the ministry of education, also belongs to the 40+ generation.

The same generation also includes Costas Katsafados, who took over state assistance as deputy minister of civil protection, as well as Thodoris Livanios, who remained at the interior ministry.

Regarding the government's technocrats, they noted that "along with the utilisation of many experienced individuals from the Parliamentary Group who are linked to the course of the New Democracy party, such as Yannis Lambropoulos, Thanasis Davakis, Lazaros Tsavdaridis and Anna Karamanli, Kyriakos Mitsotakis chose technocrats of high prestige at a European level, in the necessary positions, such as Nikos Tsafos who, as deputy minister, took over the energy portfolio (with the experienced Stavros Papastavrou as minister), former rector Nikos Papaioannou, who is being upgraded from general secretary to deputy minister with responsibility for higher education in order to implement all the major reforms, and Aristos Doxiadis, who takes over as deputy minister for research and innovation, sectors in which he has excelled in Greece and abroad."

Government officials also said that "a characteristic of the new structure is the fact that there is no recycling of individuals, while the composition was maintained in ministries such as health, where preventive screening programmes and the renovation of all health structures through the Recovery Fund are underway. The same happened in the leadership of the ministries of citizen protection, justice and development."
