Local government workers have called a national 24-hour strike on Friday (March 21), following a decision by their union POE-OTA, calling for permanent contracts of specific workers.

The union is demanding that short-term employees on NSRF programs at municipalities be given permanent positions. The action concerns employees at social facilities such as children's and disabled people's centers as well as community centers), who feel insecure "especially at this time, when funding issues are a real issue," POE-OTA said.

A protest rally is also scheduled by the union at the Social Cohesion and Family Ministry (8 Dragatsaniou Street) in central Athens at 11:00 on March 21.
