Centre of Athens closed to vehicles until 15:00 due to Athens Half Marathon

The centre of Athens was closed to vehicle traffic since early on Sunday morning for the 13th Athens Half Marathon is underway, while special traffic regulations for the race will be in effect until 15:00.
The following roads were closed:
The temporary and gradual cessation of vehicle traffic (including bicycles and Light Personal Vehicles) and prohibition of stopping and parking, on Sunday during the hours of 07.00 to 14.00, on the following avenues, streets and squares, in the Municipality of Athens:
- Vas. Amalias Avenue in both traffic streams, as well as intersecting roads up to the first parallel street, between Vas. Olgas and Syggrou Avenues.
- In its section between Vas. Olga and El. Venizelou (Panepistimiou) Street, the cessation of vehicle traffic will apply as above from 05.00 to 15.00, while in the section between Souri Street and Vas. Sofias Avenue, traffic will be stopped in the right-hand lane gradually from 14.00 on Saturday to 14.00 on Sunday.
- El. Venizelou (Panepistimiou) Street along its entire length, as well as intersecting roads up to the first parallel street.
- Stadiou, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel street.
- In the section from Amerikis Street to Syntagma Square, vehicle traffic will gradually cease from 06.00 to 14.00 on Sunday.
- Akadimias, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Solonos, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Omonia Square.
- Syntagma Square.
Filellinon, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel from 06.00 until 14.00 on Sunday.
- Patision Street (28th October), in the section between Ag. Meletiou Street and Omonia Square in both directions, as well as on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- 3 Septemvriou, between Omonia Square and Marni Street, as well as on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Marni, between Vathi Square and Patission Street and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Vas. Olgas Avenue, throughout its length and in both directions.
- Syggrou Avenue, between Am. Frantzis Street and Vas. Amalias Avenue, in both directions, as well as on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Kallirois, between Am. Frantzis and Ath. Diakou Streets in both directions.
- Ath. Diakou, throughout its length, in lanes towards Syggrou Ave.
- Irodou Attikou, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Aravantinos, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Hesiodus, along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Rigillis along its entire length and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- P. Tsaldari (Piraeus), between Kolonou Street and Omonia Square and in both directions, as well as on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Athenas, between Sophocleous Street and Omonia Square in both directions, as well as on on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Anonymous street (next to Eleftherias park), along its entire length.
- Kokkali, along its entire length.
- Petraki Monastery, between Ypsilantou street and Vas. Sofias Ave.
- Hatzikosta, along its entire length.
- Zakharof, along its entire length.
- Tsocha, between P. Kyriakou street and Vas. Sofias Ave.
- Vouliagmenis Avenue, between Timoleontos and Ardittou streets, in lanes towards Ath. Diakou.
- Ilioupoleos, between Timoleontos and Ardittou streets, in lanes towards Ath. Diakou,
- Ardittou, between Vouliagmenis and Vas. Olgas in both directions, and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Vas. Konstantinos Ave., between Vas. Olgas Ave. and Vas. Alexandros Ave., in both directions, and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Vas. Sofias Ave., between Feidippidou Ave. and Vas. Konstantinos Ave., in both directions, on intersecting roads to the first parallel, except Papadiamantopoulou Ave.
- Kifissias Ave., between Panormou and Feidippidou Aves., in lanes towards Vas. Sofias Ave., and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Vas. Alexandras, between Panormou Street and Kifissias Avenue, in lanes toward towards Kifissias Avenue, on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Alexandras, between Moustoxydi and Patision streets, in lanes towards Patision, and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Mesogeion Avenue, between from Katehaki Avenue to the Athens Tower in both directions, on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Pheidippides, between Michalakopoulou Street to Kifissias Avenue, and on intersecting roads to the first parallel.
- Thivon, between Papadiamantopoulou and Levadia streets, in lanes towards Mesogeion Avenue.
- Michalakopoulou, between Ilision Street to Mesogeion Avenue, in lanes towards Mesogeion Avenue.
VERTICAL CROSSING POINTS:
Prohibition of vertical passage of vehicles along the Half Marathon route, during the hours when the traffic ban will be in effect, except for the following controlled junctions:
- Patision - 28th October - Ag. Meletiou.
- Vas. Sofias - Herodou Attikou Ave. (only for Fire Department vehicles).
- Vas. Sofias - Papadiamantopoulou Ave.
- Vas. Sofias - Kokkali Ave.
- Vas. Sofias - Rigilli Ave. (only for Fire Department and E.K.A.V. vehicles).
- Vas. Konstantinou Ave. - Vas. Georgiou Ave.
- Vas. Konstantinou- Herod Atticus
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
Due to the above traffic regulations, drivers can follow the following indicative alternative routes for their best convenience:
From Athens Centre to Zografou - Pagrati - Kaisariani - Vyrona:
Via Alexandras Ave. (traffic flow towards Alexandras Ave.) - left Panormou (traffic flow towards Kifissia Ave.) - left Kifissias Ave. (traffic flow towards Kifissia) - right Katehaki Ave. - continue P. Kanellopoulou - continue either right Kokkinopoulou or straight towards Karea - Alimou Ave.
From Zografou - Pagrati - Kaisariani - Vyrona to Athens Center:
Via Ulof Palme - continue Kokkinopoulou - left A. Katehaki (traffic flow towards Mesogeion Avenue) - left Kifissias Avenue (traffic flow towards Athens Center) - right Panormou Avenue (traffic flow towards Alexandras Avenue) - Alexandras Avenue (traffic flow towards Patision Avenue).
From Athens Centre to Southern Suburbs:
Via Piraeus - Hamosterna - Syggrou Avenue - Poseidonos Avenue or,
Via Piraeus - Hamosterna - Kalliroi - Vouliagmeni Avenue.
From Athens Centre to Western Suburbs:
i) Via Evelpidon - Prigiponnison - Konstantinos Tsaldari Avenue - then through the Kypseli area to Patision (traffic flow towards Acharnai, after the Agios Meletios intersection) to the N.E.O. Athens-Lamia, etc.
ii) Via Evelpidon - Prigiponnisson - Konstantinos Tsaldaris Ave. - then via Vrilissos - Konstantinos Perrikos - Georgios Bakos - Periklis Stavros - Kifissias Ave. (traffic flow towards Kifissia) - then towards Attiki Odos - N.E.O. Athens-Lamia etc.
iii) Via Patision - Agathoupolis - towards Acharnon (traffic flow towards Acharnai) towards N.E.O. Athens-Lamia etc.
