Third vote for the election of the President of Republic to be held on Thursday

The third vote in the parliament plenary for the election of the President of the Hellenic Republic will take place on Thursday, after a second round of voting on January 31 failed to yield the required two thirds majority for any of the candidates.
Both in the first and the second round, ruling New Democracy's candidate Constantine Tassoulas received 160 votes, main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change candidate Tassos Giannitsis 34 votes, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance's candidate Louka Katseli 40 votes and Niki candidate Kostas Kyriakou 14 votes.
In the first and second votes, a majority of 200 deputies was required, in the third vote, the successful candidate must receive a three-fifths majority of 180 votes. If none of the candidates is elected, then a fourth round of voting will follow after five days (February 12), where the
President can be elected with a majority of 151 votes in the 300-member Greek parliament.
