Election of the new Parliament president on Wednesday

The parliament plenary will hold a vote to elect the new president of the parliament on Wednesday, following the resignation of Constantinos Tassoulas, who has been nominated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the office of President of the Republic.
Nikitas Kaklamanis is expected to be elected with a huge majority as the opposition parties PASOK-Movement for Change and SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance have also expressed their support for his candidacy, while the parliamentary groups of Elliniki Lysi and Spartiates, as well as the majority of independent MPs, are positively inclined toward him. The New Left has decided to abstain through a 'present' vote, while the same stance is expected to be adopted by the Communist Party of Greece, Niki and Plefsi Eleftherias.
After the election of the new president of the body, there will be a  handover ceremony.
