Culture Min Mendoni meets with her Armenian counterpart in Yerevan

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni is paying an official visit to Armenia in order to take part in the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Ancient Civilizations' Forum which is held in Yerevan.
According to a ministry's announcement, Mendoni had a meeting with the Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan with who they discussed the possibilities of strengthening the cultural cooperation between the two countries.
The discussion focused on the prospects for cooperation in the field of cultural heritage, with an emphasis on the new technologies offered for the protection of monuments. The two ministers recognised the importance of using satellite images and artificial intelligence to map, monitor and protect cultural monuments.
They agreed to strengthen their cooperation through the exchange of know-how and the hosting of archaeological exhibitions. One of the issues discussed was the presentation of the exhibition "The Greeks. From Agamemnon to Alexander the Great" in Armenia.
The discussion included the consultation of two new agreements, which are in the process of being checked by the relevant Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of the two countries and aim at closer and more substantial cultural cooperation. The first of the agreements concerns dealing with the illegal trafficking of cultural goods and the second concerns the reviewed Executive Program for Cultural Cooperation 2024-2028.
Concluding, Mendoni reiterated Greece's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Armenia, pointing out that the protection of cultural heritage is a shared responsibility and a global priority.
Later, the Minister of Culture visited the headquarters of the "Union of Greek Communities" in Armenia. The Greek community numbers approximately 900 people of mixed marriages. The association organises many activities and programmes.
Afterwards, Mendoni was toured to the of the Armenian Genocide Museum and laid a wreath at the Memorial together with Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Fragogiannis, who is visiting Armenia for political consultations.
