Visiting Ministers from Germany, Cyprus, and Slovakia praise Thessaloniki Metro and its archaeological discoveries

The archaeological treasures unearthed during the construction of the Thessaloniki Metro impressed the Greek government’s foreign guests at the inauguration, they told ANA-MPA.
“ This is a very important day for Thessaloniki, which is why I accepted the invitation from the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras,” German Transport Minister Volker Wissing said. “ I wanted to share this special moment with you all because infrastructure brings new opportunities and enhances quality of life. I am delighted to be here,” he added.
“ The Thessaloniki Metro is amazing; it is a testament to Greek culture, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted,” said Cypriot Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works Alexis Vafiadis. He expressed admiration for the Venizelos station, calling it “ an opportunity to showcase Greek culture.” He also remarked, “ I am proud of the historical heritage shared by all Greeks. This achievement deserves high praise.”
Slovak Transport Minister Jozef Raz highlighted the uniqueness of the Venizelos station. “ I can say that it is probably the most historic combination of a museum and a railway station,” Raz stated. He commended the project for respecting Thessaloniki’s and Greece’s historical legacy while creating modern infrastructure.
