Staikouras: Thessaloniki Metro marks historic moment; transforms city’s transport

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, at the inauguration of the Thessaloniki Metro, stressed that "The Metro is here. Today we are experiencing historic moments that Thessaloniki has been waiting for years".

He pointed out that the Thessaloniki Metro is one of the largest projects ever undertaken in Greece in terms of technical requirements and costs, while he stressed that political will played a decisive role in its construction. "The state must have consistency and continuity. And the

Metro is tangible proof that the government of the New Democracy party with Kyriakos Mitsotakis as prime minister serves this necessity with actions and not with words," Stakouras stressed.

"With the operation of the Metro, the transport map of Thessaloniki is changing, which already provides for an affordable pricing policy, new, increased bus routes and a renewed - by 50% - fleet of vehicles," he said.
