Painting by Tsarouchis sells in Paris for over half a million euros

A painting by Yiannis Tsarouchis sold in Paris at a Bonhams and Art Expertise auction for 572,000 euros, the highest of any of the late painter's works.

The "Young man posing as Eros" was followed at the auction by Yiannis Moralis' "Eroticon", sold for 483,000 euros, while Nikos Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika's "Hydra" sold for 172,000 euros.

Also sold were Constantinos Volanakis' "Port view" (77,000 euros) and Nikos Engonopoulos' "Vincenzo Cornaro and Georgios Hortatsis" (77,000 euros also).

The director of Art Expertise, Bonhams associate in Athens, Terpsichore Angelopoulou, said, "We are happy to see that the works we chose for the auction have emotionally moved collectors of Greek art and inspired young buyers to invest in real values."

Sold at the auction were 99% of the works (by value) or 70% by lot, bringing a total of 3,000,000 euros.
