Mitsotakis stresses need for Europeans to organise energy independence and common defense

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his weekly review posted on Sunday on social media congratulated the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
He referred to the good relations between the two countries and the strong Greek presence in the United States. "I am sure that the relations between our two countries will remain stable and productive with the new Trump presidency. Let me also make a comment about Europe, as international developments confirm the need and also the importance of a united and strong presence. As a member state of the European core, we believe that it is urgent to dynamically seek its place in an ever-changing global map of relationships and interests," he underlined.
He stressed the need to make the European economy more competitive, while strengthening social cohesion. He also referred to energy independence and common defense. "In short, Europe needs a peaceful 'counterattack' in the direction indicated by the Draghi report. The debate began at the recent informal European Council in Budapest. But we have to move faster," he emphasized.
Moving on to internal issues, he mentioned the presentation of the Local Development Plan of Argolis, the imminent launch of the Thessaloniki Metro, the approval of 271 investment projects throughout Greece, the formation of the special body of doctors of the Disability Certification Center and the recruitment of 105 Special Education teachers in Primary and Secondary Education in a week.
The prime minister also pointed out that the renovation of 30 public and municipal properties included in the Social Housing program for the most vulnerable groups is about to start, he raised the issue of seasonal firefighters by making certain clarifications, he emphasized that the issuing of pension decisions continues at a rapid pace and made special reference to a "very important recycling bill that was passed a few days ago in the Parliament and constitutes - without exaggeration - a radical reform in waste management in Greece."
