Athens Epidaurus Festival expands to Asia

The Athens Epidaurus Festival has expanded to Asia in an effort to further strengthen its extroversion, in a continent where Greece does not yet have strong cultural exchanges in the field of modern culture. In this context, the artistic director of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, Katerina Evagelatou, and the general director, Ioannis Kaplanis, participated in October as invited speakers in important events for the performing arts in Korea and China, where they had the opportunity to present the history and actions of festivals, as well as their proposals for cooperation with these two countries.
Invited to the 2024 Performing Arts Market Seoul, the largest international market for the performing arts in Korea, Katerina Evagelatou delivered the opening greeting together with the Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea Yong Ho Sung. Evagelatou presented GRAPE - the Greek Agora of Performance for the promotion of Greek performing arts abroad. "The Agora during ancient times was an important place of meeting, dialogue and free exchange of opinions. For us it is important that such platforms retain something of the essence of the ancient Agora and not be places of commercial transactions," she said.
In Seoul, Evagelatou had important working meetings with representatives of cultural organisations from Asia, Australia, North and South America, Canada and Europe. She also visited Shanghai as a guest of the China Shanghai International Performing Arts Festival.
