Health Min Georgiadis: Limnos island hospital has covered 91% of its staffing needs

The hospital of Limnos island "has improved tremendously in the last 4 years, with 91% of its staffing needs met," Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said while visiting the island on Friday.

Despite the rumors that the island has no hospital or it is falling apart, the hospital has also acquired an oncologist for the first time, the minister noted. It has a new dialysis unit with new machinery, and can serve patients "at an unprecedented high rate for the history of this island," Georgiadis underlined.

The minister was accompanied by the Secretary General for Health Services Lilian Vildiridi, the 2nd Health Region Governor Christos Roilos, and the Association of Hospital Doctors of Athens and Piraeus (EINAP) Matina Pagoni. They all attended a meeting at the General Hospital of Limnos, chaired by Georgiadis, to be briefed about outstanding issues and possible solutions.

A new regulation that will be approved shortly, the minister said, will allow the posting of two more pathologists on the island, while there will be a renewed call with new incentives for a cardiologist, a radiologist, and a general surgeon.

Georgiadis also met with Limnos Mayor Eleonora Georga and Limnos Prefect Apostolos Koutsogiannis.
