Hellenic Parliament undergoes energy upgrades

Hellenic Parliament has undergone significant energy and aesthetic upgrades. Specifically, the project involved the energy-efficient upgrading of the lighting for the façades of the Parliament, the courtyard areas, all architectural elements within these areas, the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, the Vehicle Station, the Nursery and the television lighting for the meeting rooms.

The project, with a budget of 1,900,000 euros, was financed by the Green Fund’s “ Environmental Balance Actions” Programme for the year 2022 and completed on July 7.

The new lighting has aesthetically enhanced the nighttime appearance of the Parliament building and its surroundings within a modern framework of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

The new digital lighting was implemented exclusively with high color consistency LED light sources. Each luminaire is digitally controlled with extremely high precision regarding its intensity level and operational timing. This method combines energy-efficient light sources with an automated precision control system to achieve maximum energy benefits.

In the context of sustainability and energy conservation, the new lighting design also focuses on protection against light pollution. Special care has been taken to ensure that the lighting compositions after midnight are adjusted to very low levels, remaining friendly to the dark sky.
The lighting design was carried out by Athanasios Danilov of Danilof Studio, and the electrical installations were managed by Insta Consulting Engineers. The contractor for the project was Zambelis ABEE, with Miltiadis Psyllias as the project manager.
Notably, the energy savings from the changes to the five-story underground parking and the nursery are significant. Specifically, the nominal consumption of the previous installation was reduced from 137 KW to 41 KW, and with the use of the intelligent management system, the final consumption is reduced to 29 KW.
