Court imposes sentences of five and six years for death of Zak Kostopoulos

An Athens Mixed Jury Appeals Court on Wednesday imposed prison sentences of five and six years, respectively, on an estate agent and jeweller found guilty of inflicting fatal blows that killed 33-year-old Zak Kostopoulos in 2018.
The court ordered that the 64-year-old estate agent serve his sentence in prison, while the 81-year-old jeweller was ordered to remain under house arrest.
Both were unanimously found guilty of inflicting deadly bodily harm, with judges admitting their lack of any previous criminal record as a mitigating circumstance. For the jeweller, in whose shop Kostopoulos had become trapped, the court also admitted the inappropriate behaviour of the victim as another extenuating circumstance.
