Armed Forces step up fire patrols in the Evros Region

The Armed Forces are increasing their patrols in the Evros Region, following the orders of head Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Konstantinos Floros, who paid a visit to the region on Monday.
Patrols will be assumed by military staff from both Evros and other regions, it was announced.
Motorized infantry divisions will patrol along the Greek-Bulgarian borders and the routes passing through Greek Muslim minority communities while other divisions will patrol the interior routes of Evros and Rodopi prefecture, it was noted.
In addition, a drone (UAV Heron) will be patroling the prefecture, keeping ground forces informed in real time. Military facilities and camps have been placed under high security measures against fire as well.
During the last 24 hours, Greece has faced 63 fires, of which 10 are the largest. Six of the 10 are burning in Evros, Kavala, and Rodopi in northern Greece, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said after an interministerial meeting earlier in the day.
In terms of threat of fire, a maximum alert has also been issued for the regions of Attica, Viotia, Evia, Fthiotida, the Argolid and Corinthia for Tuesday, when high temperatures and high-velocity winds are expected to continue.
