Fire Brigade: One dead, eight injured in Patras bridge collapse

The Fire Brigade's spokesperson Vassilis Vathrakoyannis in an extraordinary briefing on Sunday said that one person is dead and another eight were recovered njured so far in the collapse of part of a bridge on Patras road ring.
Specifically, Vathrakoyannis said that one dead and five injured have been sent to Rio General Hospital while another three injured were transferred to Aghios Andreas hospital in Patras.
As he said "at 12:47  on Sunday the operations centre of the Fire Brigade was informed on a collapse of a part of a bridge on Patras ring road at the 206km Patras-Pyrgos with direction Patras. A total of 12 fire engines with a 35-member crew, the unmanned aircraft of the team Ikaros and special rescue vehicles with two rescue dogs are at the site of the accident while more rescue forces are going to join the rescue operation. He said that Patras' hospitals are on alert while at the site of the accident are 5 ambulances and an EKAB mobile unit.
In parallel, he said that traffic was restricted on the specific part of the bridge and it was close from Thursday 20 July due to works for the restoration of the underpass.
On her part, the spokesperson of Greek Police Konstantia Dimoglidou said that regional governor of western Greece Nektarios Farmakis, Deputy Infrastructure Minister Nikos Tahiaos and Deputy Transport Minister Christina Alexopoulou are at the site of the accident.
